Plant theatre workshop
What is a plant theater? Is it possible to create a theater where plants are the only artists?
At Plöntuleikhús workshop, plant specialists of all ages are invited to explore new and creative ways of writing and making stage plays that are performed for, with or by plants. The artistic director of the Plant Theater and the supervisor of the workshop is the theatre- and performance maker Lóa Björk Björnsdóttir.
A workshop for kids will start on the 19th of August in The Botanical Garden in Reykjavík. The workshop will take place from the 19th Aug - 2nd Sept between 16 - 18 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A workshop for families will be held in Gerðarsafn on the 3rd September from 13-15.
It is best to attend in pairs or groups that are a mix of kids and adults so that everyone has a good secretary.

Lóa Björk Björnsdóttir graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2017. Since graduating, she has focused on stand-up, radio- and television production. Among the projects that Lóa has worked on are Fyndnustu mínar stand up evenings, the podcast Athyglisbrestur á lokastigi (e. Attention Deficit Disorder in the final stages) and the reality shows Æði. Lóa also has experience in devised theater, but she became interested in art creation for plants when she created a performance for potted plants in her living room. The work is called Plantasía and has been in development and taken on new forms. For example, Plantasía II was shown at the performance arts festival Plöntutíð 2020. The current work of Plantasía is a devised theater with children where the children get to know methods for creating their own Plant Theater. The questions the work asks are, can plants benefit from art? Can we make art without trying to appeal to human audiences?
